What’s changed?

  1. The Insurance Council of Australia has declared COVID-19 an insurance catastrophe. The insurance hotline has been activated. Ph: 1800 734 621

  2. The Australian Financial Complaints Authority has a significant event hotline to support individuals financially impacted by COVID-19. Ph: 1800 337 444

  3. ASIC has sent letters to general insurers and life insurers setting out its expectations of responses during the pandemic

  4. Some insurers have announced financial hardship assistance

  5. There are likely to be delays in getting claims paid

  6. Pandemic is a commonly used exclusion clause in some insurance policies (for example, travel insurance)

  7. The Government has not announced any changes in the insurance laws (at this stage) in response to the pandemic.
